i've been turned on by spanking since I was very young. That was how it all began, though I'm sure that's hardly a rare story.
for several years--particularly throughout high school before i'd experimented with sex and sexuality, i worried i'd never be able to reconcile my identity as a feminist and as a woman with submissive desires. some of my peers in my women's/gender studies department still don't quite understand that feminism actually provides a rationale for how BDSM can be empowering. but i think the two can--and are--very closely linked to one another.
