Absolutely. Some people enter into dom/sub relationships without any idea of what they're getting themselves into, and things can go badly wrong. A common mistake is just jumping all the way into 24/7 power exchange, which really is the deep end of the swimming pool. And sometimes one partner or the other proves either untrustworthy or lacking a necessary character trait to make everything work.

But really, it's like this with any relationship, vanilla or kinky. Some people figure out how to make it work, and some people don't, and some people aren't as compatible as they thought they were.

I would agree. The issue with Severine's relationship isn't BDSM. It's that he's not finding kink women to play with and he's focusing too much of his attention on his kink.
