Hi MC - The question you put out there may not be specific enough to generate the kind of responses you want, but I'll take a shot at it.

There are different kinds of supplies....
1. The basic BDSM specific stuff like leather wrist and ankle cuffs, collars, crops, canes, floggers, gags, dildos, and blindfolds. (online or local)
2. Ropes, anchors, velcro, electrical tape, hardware type stuff (hardware store)
3. Specialty items, like leather wear, harnesses, stocks, special whips and floggers, etc.. (specialty store or local shop)

Home Depot, Leows and Ace Hardware Stores here in the states have an extensive online catalog and you can call your local store to see if they have what you need.

Online stores are good for items where you are familiar with the equipment already and don't need to hold it in your hand... you just know. You can shop all over and compare return policies, and prices. Once you've found what you need, always go to Amazon dot com and check them. You'd be surprised what they have, but they don't have a specific BDSM section so you have to look up stuff you need there.

For those things that are new to you or just have to feel right. Shop local and get your hands on the stuff. There are all sorts of grades of leather, gags, masks, hoods, etc and a lot of the time it's better to touch it before you buy it.
Once you see the stuff and get an idea of what you want, remember the manufacturer or company it came from if you need to shop later for it (or find it cheaper).
If you don't have a store local, then look up stores in a destination you want to visit and visit them when you travel. It's fun just to go to another city just to buy kink.

When you buy leather floggers and such, do yourself a favor and buy better than the cheapest one. The cheap ones aren't as well balanced, aren't dyed well and the color can start to come off on your sub (or you). They tend not to hold up as well either.
The same is true for leather restraints. They go through a lot.

Also (for leather) get yourself some saddle soap, mink oil, Bic-4, or other leather cleaner and conditioner and learn to use it properly.
Look into what works well to clean the rest of your plastic, rubber, or silicone toys also. They can really hold on to bacteria (you can put a rubber on your hitachi).

Hope this helps.
