I need some help on picking a good color of highlights for my hair. Help?

My daughter is 12 years old. Old enough to be at an age where she should be able to go get whatever she wants in the kitchen, right? She should at least be able to fix her plate without hearing anything from her mom and dad. I'm not sure of the answer to this because I've had to police my daughters portions since she was a toddler. If there's cake, she wants the biggest slice. If there's pizza she wants to have 6 slices and as many bread sticks as she can snag. I don't stay on her about her weight and I don't want to give her a complex or an eating disorder so I always stress that we just want her to be healthy. (She was a very pudgy little girl and she HATED it, so I've tried to help her go for walks or eat better, etc.) If I suggest fruits or vegetables her nose goes up. I've even had her pediatrician talk to her about nutrition. Here we are at age 12. I'm so tired of watching her get double what a person of her age weight should for snacks, for breakfast, for dinner, for lunch and then having to say something or tell her to put some back like she's a small child. Her father and I are to the point of giving up and just letting her eat how she wishes because we are so tired of it. She's too old for us to have to stay on her like this, right? I KNOW if we stop policing her intake she will put on 20 lbs soon and will be that sad pudgy girl again. I love her regardless of size but I know how she feels about herself then and how it's hard for her to deal with kids at school. It's so frustrating. (We talk about it from time to time and she just glares at us like we are evil but the very second she puts on 10 lbs all I hear is her complain about it.) Should we leave her alone and let her eat how she wants or continue to stress what portion sizes are best and watch her eating for her since she doesn't at all?
