GTG: Stuff gags ARE dangerous, for a number of reasons. Usually people use things like socks or underwear. Some are small enough to be swallowed and choke on. Some expand dangerously as they absorb the sub's saliva. Some may simply make mouth breathing very difficult. And in some cases, they can trigger vomiting, which, since the vomit can't be expelled, winds up being aspirated and causing choking. When burglars rob houses, tying up the occupant and using a stuff gag is one of the more common ways the crime turns into murder.
If you're going to use a stuff gag, make sure you don't leave the sub unattended, and make sure the sub has a way to either remove the gag or signal that it needs to come out immediately. Better yet, use a purpose-made gag that can't be swallowed or trigger a gag reflex.
Bondage is the most dangerous branch of BDSM. There are all sorts of ways that it can go wrong. Bondage doms have an obligation to learn the safety basics of any method they intend to use. Although you might see stuff gags used in porn, remember that in any bondage shoot, there are always several people present who can spot that the sub is in distress (the dom, the guy who actually did the bondage, and the camera man, at a minimum, and possibly the director, the lighting guy, and others). So don't assume that what you've seen in a porn shoot is necessarily safe as you see it in the clip. You rarely see the safety efforts.
