Roland - I strongly suggest you try "The Loving Dominant" by John Warren. It has a lot of very good guidelines and suggestions for dominating someone you love, and gives good advice on safety in ties, suspension, corporal, and other things.

Seb - Thank you for your comments about the amount of abuse and danger by many "so called" Doms. Not just the rape and stupid suspension accidents, but joint and nerve damage, heart valve damage, and more. Too many of these guys get their experience by watching sadistic porn, then go on to inflict all sorts of damage on naive women.

As far as FSOG goes, as unrealistic as some of the stuff is, I think it has done much, in it's sheer volume and exposure on national media, to give us all an idea of how many have a bit of "us" in them. I'm still working through the first book.
I was initially curious to see how much reality it would depict, but I knew I needed to read it for "cocktail talk".

One interesting point though... It's amazing how many women will just start talking to you about it when they see you are reading it (and I made a point of not sitting it out with the cover up).

What I really want to know is... where did they get that tie??? I've been looking for months.

OK so this is mt first post... please be kind...

I read 50 Shades... all three of them... about 2 weeks ago. I had no knowledge at the time that it was Twilight fan fic, if I had of known that I would probably have resisted from reading it. I'm not one to generally jump on the bandwagon of any kind, generally as soon as there is a bandwagon I'll move hell and high water to avoid it. But this time I jumped on after picking up my friends cpoy and reading a few pages somewhere in the middle. It gave me a giggle so I figured why the hell not see what all the hype is about...

I'm still on the fence as to what I actually thought of the book. I know it was poorly written and my god did alot of it piss me off on that level but as far as the story goes I can't make up my mind if I liked it or not.

But to get to the point.... Yes I am one of those people who read it and wandered my way through cyber space and landed here. No I do not know much (anything) about the BDSM world but I was able to recognise that 50 Shades was fiction based on a skewed idea of what someone clearly thought it was about. I have never been a sub but it is something that has always intrigued me. It's something I have always wanted to try. What reading the book did for me was give me a little confidence to actually explore it.

I'm not diluded enough to go looking for my very own Christian Grey but I would like to explore 50 Shades of something different.

Okay, okay, okay... For the record, I HATE that review. Although it AT THE VERY END mentions that there's such a thing as a CONSENTING D/s RELATIONSHIP, it pretty much tiffs at BDSM the entire review. Yep, some women like to be beat...

However, from what I've heard, Christian has some obvious violations of consent and some unhealthy dynamics go on... But so far, I haven't read anything to that tune. I'm on page 200-something... And yes... I'm totally reading it. Don't make fun of me.

I think there's a kinky mind out there that can do better, though... But it may include REAL rape, because it's a FANTASY, and although in REAL life, REAL rape is rape not a healthy sexual activity, I think it's okay to fantasize about being really raped or abused, just so long as you're not fantasizing about raping and abusing and actually doing said raping and abusing... Fuck... Does that make any sense?
