Often they're stroking to relieve a little of the pain so it doesnt become too intense. I beat my sub from gentle strokes to a few short, really harsh ones- after that ill smooth the skin, rub and massage a bit to diffuse the pain a little so i can repeat the exercise without it becoming really nasty.
