Burning sensation with ball gag

Most of the time, during BDSM play, I wear a basic rubber ball gag. This is really comfortable (except of course when worn for a long period of time) but one thing I've noticed is that it gives me an odd burning sensation in the back of my throat whenever I wear it. Not right away, but after about 5 or 10 minutes of wear, and the sensation lasts until the gag is taken out.

I've always been a bit worried about it, but apart from that I've had no strange reactions. My master and I switched roles last weekend, and he wanted to try the gag out to see what it was like. And he too experienced the weird burning. I'm not sure whether the fact that someone else has experienced this makes me more or less worried about it, but I also have the added worry of whether or not it's ideal to be wearing a gag like this because of my tongue piercing (the bar I have in at the moment is a bit too long, but I'll be getting a shorter one as soon as I can) I'm worried that having the ball in, and no doubt putting pressure on the bar, might loosen it. I've been fine so far, but it doesn't stop me worrying

Anyway, does anyone else have any weird reactions to rubber ball gags, or have any experience combining these with tongue piercing bars and perhaps some advice if necessary?

try a wiffle ball gag, the ones that are plastic with holes in them. see if you get the same response, if so, I'd say its the pain associated with stretching the jaw muscles....

I've thought of breathable ball gags before, but I'm not really keen; I'm worried my tongue bar might get caught in the holes, and every online review I've ever read was a bad one. Apparently both rubber and plastic ones taste unbearably foul, to the point where soaking or even bleaching them makes no difference

Could it be that the burning sensation is you actually tasting the chemicals in the rubber? A lot of people are very sensitive to the chemicals in plastic, rubber and latex. Maybe another brand would be better. I would personally stay away from plastics that have a very strong smell (you are actually smelling the chemicals). Have you tried using a gag made from natural materials like cotton or hemp?

I would maybe suggest, Puppy, to try a bit gag, or as subspace said, one made of cotton or hemp, to see if you react the same way.

I have no idea whether or not it is definitely the chemicals in the rubber causing it. I'd assume that if that was the case, I'd be in some discomfort for a while afterwards, but no, once the gag comes out it's like nothing happened

We have been discussing getting some other gags, like bit/ring/penis gags etc. I do have a homemade gag made from a plastic ball cat toy, and while I don't have any burning with this, I do often find breathing a bit difficult (which is funny as it's full of holes). I've used scarves and things before, but we wanted something 'proper', and although I love tape, the problem with this is it loosens and so doesn't last very long.

here's a thought, organic knit rope, tied into a 1 inch ball knot. that would make an excellent gag. Then you could simply incorporate it into any rope bondage, or cut it to length to be snug on your head.

Maybe there is something in that particular ball gag. Or as Sparrow said, maybe it is too big, therefore causing the sensation, that something is wrong. I know when Master uses the Dog toy bone gag, if it is in for longer than 30 miutes, my jaw is stiff and soree for yup to 2 days later depending on length of time it was in.

Seeing as how you don't think it's the chemicals, Sparrow may be right in his assumption that it is the pain from your jaw being stretched. I've heard there's some type of exercises that you can do to help with that, but it may be easier to just find a different gag though.

Master of Puppies- Okay this is soooo off subject so please forgive me but.... I was at a bbq this past weekend and the guys were playing the new Guitar Hero Metallica version and when they started playing "Master of Puppets" I couldn't stop laughing! Luckily they wrote it off to me being tipsy!
